Wilco Drummer to Headline Day of Percussion February 22, 2003

With extensive international touring experience, television appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Late Show with Conan O'Brien, and CNN, percussionist Glenn Kotche will present a contemporary drum set workshop as part of the Kentucky Day of Percussion held on Saturday, February 22 in the Singletary Center for the Arts on the campus of the University of Kentucky. The Kentucky Chapter of PAS and the UK School of Music sponsors the Day of Percussion. Kotche is a member is Wilco, whose recent release Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the most critically acclaimed records of 2002, selling over half a million copies worldwide in the first 9 months. The 31-year old native Chicagoan has come into prominence as one of the leading high demand percussionists on today's musical horizon as both a stabilizing rhythmic force and a sound explorer with a sense of wide-eyed adventurousness and creative zeal.

Marimba specialist Andy Harnsberger

will serve double duty as he prepares the Kentucky All-Collegiate Percussion Ensemble for a concert and also presents a keyboard masterclass for advanced marimba players.

The Tennessee based percussion group Caixa Percussion Trio

will present a session on accessory percussion fundamentals that will be geared for middle school and high school students as well as music teachers. Caixa will also present a concert that includes classical, contemporary, world and rudimental percussion.

Kentucky Chapter of PAS Day of Percussion

Registration begins at 9 AM

Activities begin at 10:00 AM and will conclude by 5:30 PM

Cost is $10 registration fee / $5 for current members of PAS (with ID)

Caixa will be presenting the FUNdamentals clinic, exploring techniques of Auxilliary and Hand percussion. This clinic is designed for middle school and high school aged students as well as music teachers.

MASTERCLASS: Andy Harnsberger
The marimba masterclass will be aimed for the more advanced marimbist. Mr. Harnsberger will perform and have college students perform for comments examining technical and musical approach.

CONCERT: Caixa Percussion Trio
This concert will be an exciting mix of classical, contemporary, world and rudimental percussion works.

(The PAS Chapter meeting will be held in the Rehearsal Room).

CONCERT: All-Collegiate Percussion Ensemble
Directed by Andy Harnsberger, this concert consists of the best students from various Kentucky Colleges and Universities.
